Radio Unefon now available.

MEXICO CITY, Jul 07, 2004 (El Economista/Corporate Mexico by Internet Securities, Inc. via COMTEX) -- In order to boost its market share, the cellular telephone company Unefon has introduced of integrated radio and cellular telephone services, called Radio Unefon.

This means that Unefon will compete directly with the radio communication giant Nextel. Unefon's network will be larger than that of its number one competitor though. Juan Carlos Olvera, director of local networks and services, explained to newspaper El Economista that this new product forms part of its business strategy to offer added-value services in its attempt not only to stay alive in a highly-competitive market, but also to boost its presence in Mexico.

"The new Radio Unefon service will allow us to reach 500,000 new users, and it is already available in the country's main cities...In 2005 the service will also offer roaming in countries like the United States and Canada," highlighted the official.

In order to offer this new service, Unefon invested US$2 million. The company's client base currently numbers 1,300,000. The firm commented that only four months have passed since it first announced its intention to launch this new product.
