WA: Labor pledges $1million extra for live music

PERTH, Aug 28 AAP - Labor has promised an extra $1 million for all ages music events
and live music venues if it wins the West Australian election.

The new funding also would provide money to promote music in regional areas and towards
mentorships for emerging music producers.

Premier Alan Carpenter said the $1 million over four years adds to the current $3.6
million spent on the Contemporary Music Strategy.

"The program has supported the international careers and market development of a number
commercially successful Western Australian bands such as Little Birdy, Gyroscope, End
of Fashion, The Panics and The Panda Band," Mr Carpenter said.

"We are continuing to invest in Western Australian bands as they forge ahead with increased
sales, touring and audience numbers."
