SYDNEY, Dec 14 AAP - Australia's first female governor-general has praised Nicola Roxon
for becoming the first female attorney-general at the swearing-in ceremony of the new-look
Labor ministry.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard's new frontbench was sworn in at Admiralty House in Sydney
by Quentin Bryce on Wednesday.

Ms Bryce said Ms Roxon's promotion from health to attorney-general was a significant milestone.

"I have to note how delighted women's associations will be, women law students and
particularly women of my generation," she said after the minister took her affirmation.

The ceremony follows Ms Gillard's frontbench reshuffle in which she unveiled an expanded
22-member cabinet, elevating Bill Shorten, Mark Butler and Tanya Plibersek.
