WA: WA: Four detainees charged over Perth airport assault

Four detainees will appear in court today charged over an assault at Perth airportin which a detention centre employee was injured.

The assault follows a spate of unrest over the weekend at South and West Australiandetention centres, with deliberately lit fires causing damage estimated at more than $5million.

The four men -- who spent last night in an East Perth police lock-up -- are due toappear in a magistrate's court today to face charges of assault and resisting arrest.

Police say the injured Australasian Correctional Management employee was treated forminor facial wounds after being hit with a stick.

Officers were called to the detention centre about 1pm (WST) yesterday to help ACMstaff deal with two detainees who had allegedly injured someone.

Their arrests sparked protest from two of the other 18 detainees, who were also charged.
