Tony Clement
federal Industry Minister
He told the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission it must revisit a decision to end the practice of unlimited data plans for Internet service providers, or risk having the federal cabinet do it. The original decision was sure to lead to massive increases in data charges for Canadians. By serving notice that he's not willing to let that happen, Clement keeps Canada's wireless and data industry a bit more competitive, and earns the thanks of many voters.
The City of Toronto.
The Big Smoke was supposed to be leveled by a major winter storm that was expected to bring up to 40 centimetres of snow and blizzard-like winds. The city braced itself by closing public buildings, fitness centres, schools, libraries and even shopping malls. The storm was nowhere near as bad as predicted, which was good for Torontonians, but bad for their growing reputation as the weather ninnies of Canada.
Assiniboine Park Zoo
The park will be the beneficiary of a $3-million investment by Qualico homes. The donation will help establish the Qualico Family Centre, which will contain a restaurant and special-event catering facilities. It is the first phase of a $10-million upgrade to the zoo and park.
