Qld: Disappearance mystifies police

By John Sheed

BRISBANE, Feb 16 AAP - Police are baffled by the disappearance of Brisbane church youth
leader Paul Taylor and have appealed for help from the public.

Mr Taylor, 40, from the northern suburb of Bald Hills, disappeared while travelling
home from work on Thursday night.

Police said he had called his wife Raija at 9.15pm (AEST) to say he was locking up
the food store where he worked at Annerley and would be home shortly.

But he failed to arrive and his wife called police, who later found Mr Taylor's car,
a beige Ford station wagon, in long grass beside the Centenary Highway at Darra, in the
western suburbs.

Police said the car had been travelling towards the city when it was abandoned.

A wide search of the area by police and State Emergency Service workers has found no
trace of Mr Taylor.

Samples of a small amount of fluid found in the car had been sent for testing.

"That's still at the John Tonge (forensic testing) Centre and we are still waiting
for the results," a police spokeswoman said.

"We are also still checking his bank records to see if any of his bank accounts have
been touched."

"The disappearance is a mystery and we are appealing for anyone who has any information
to contact us."

Mr Taylor was described as around 178cm tall, caucasian, blue eyes, brown hair and
balding with a moustache.

He was last seen wearing black pants and a white shirt.
